Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has emerged as India's top-performing university at the 2025 World University Games held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, contributing six of the country's 12 medals.

With three silver and three bronze medals, KIIT became the highest medal-winning university in the event's 65-year history. Silver medals were secured by Ankita (3000m steeplechase), Praveen Chithrawal (triple jump), and Seeman (5000m). Bronze medals went to the men's 4x100m relay team, the women's 20km race walk team, and Avinash Mohanty in badminton.

A total of 40 athletes from KIIT represented India across seven disciplines. On their return, they were felicitated by KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, who awarded ₹3 lakh to silver medallists and ₹1 lakh to bronze winners.

Calling it a national milestone, Dr. Samanta said the achievement reflects the impact of institutional support, scientific training, and belief in youth. He thanked the Odisha government, SAI, AIU, and the Centre for their support, and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting youth and sports.

KIIT was also designated as a Nodal University by AIU, continuing its leadership in global university sports.
