Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the state Education Department to ensure that government school teachers are posted in their preferred blocks or nearby areas, addressing long-standing demands over transfers.

In a post on X, Kumar said, “The task of postings of teachers within districts will be carried out by a committee of district officials so that, as far as possible, teachers are posted in their desired blocks or nearby areas.”

He added that suggestions were being received regarding the recent transfers, and the department has been asked to review these. “Teachers facing inter-district transfer issues will be asked to provide three district options, and their postings will be done accordingly,” Kumar said.

Stressing the role of teachers in shaping children's futures, the Chief Minister urged them to focus on their duties without anxiety over transfers.

Teacher associations across the state have long demanded preferential postings, citing challenges in subject-specific vacancies and inconsistent placements. In response, the Education Department recently launched an online self-transfer system aimed at easing the process and addressing dissatisfaction.

The move is expected to improve teacher availability and reduce learning gaps in schools across Bihar.
