New Delhi: Food menus at hostels and canteens in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have been altered after a reduction in LPG supply to the campus, prompting student organisations to urge the administration to take steps to ensure uninterrupted mess services.

Following the cut in supply, the mess menu at the Lohit hostel has been revised, removing items such as roti on certain days. According to the updated menu, roti will not be served during lunch on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with alternatives such as rice or khichdi being provided instead.

Letters issued by Indraprastha Gas Limited to mess authorities of the Sabarmati and Lohit hostels stated that gas supplies to industrial and commercial consumers have been restricted to 80 per cent of their average consumption over the past six months from March 11.

Student groups said the shortage has also affected canteen menus across the campus. The Disha Students' Organisation claimed that some items, including samosas at the School of International Studies canteen and tea at the TEFLAS canteen, have already been removed.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union said it will lead a march to the office of the dean of students on Tuesday, demanding measures to ensure the smooth functioning of mess facilities and dhabas on the campus.
