Puducherry: The Department of Orthopaedics at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Basic Orthopaedic Oncology for Clinical Practice”, drawing participation from postgraduate trainees, practising orthopaedic surgeons and multidisciplinary faculty from across the region.

The CME featured lectures by leading experts from south India, including senior oncologists from the Adyar Cancer Institute and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre. Sessions covered benign and malignant bone tumours, biopsy techniques, imaging modalities and multidisciplinary tumour board deliberations, highlighting the importance of collaborative cancer care in orthopaedic practice.

A special felicitation ceremony was held to honour Prof D K Patro, former Head of Orthopaedics at JIPMER, for completing over four decades of service. He was presented with a citation and memento in recognition of his contributions to orthopaedic oncology in the presence of former faculty members, alumni and students.

The programme concluded with a multidisciplinary tumour board session, which focused on strengthening academic collaborations in orthopaedic oncology at JIPMER and beyond.
