Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched five free online courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) via the SWAYAM Plus platform, aiming to make AI education accessible across diverse academic backgrounds including arts, science, and commerce.

The last date to register is May 12, 2025.

These courses, ranging from 25 to 45 hours in duration, are designed for students, faculty, and working professionals with no prior AI knowledge required. The initiative aligns with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and is tailored to enhance employability across disciplines.

The five new courses include 'AI in Physics', 'AI in Chemistry', 'AI in Accounting', 'Cricket Analytics with AI', and 'AI/ML using Python'. Each course blends theoretical concepts with hands-on learning using real-world datasets and tools like Python.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras, said, “These credit-aligned courses are designed to make AI education inclusive and relevant, enabling institutions to integrate them into their academic calendar.”

The courses offer features such as:
Case-study based learning and real dataset-driven activities
Certification on completion (with a nominal fee)
Skill development recognition for credit transfer by universities
Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students across all disciplines, as well as faculty from higher education institutions, the courses require only basic digital literacy and a willingness to learn.
