Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has extended the deadline for admissions to its government arts and science colleges by reopening the online application portal from May 30, State Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi announced on Tuesday.

The first phase of online applications, held from May 7 to May 27, saw a total of 2,25,705 registrations, including 1.08 lakh women, 76,065 men, and 78 transgender persons. Among them, 1.84 lakh applicants completed the fee payment process.

To ensure wider access, especially for students who missed the initial deadline or are awaiting supplementary exam results, the application window will reopen on May 30.

As per the schedule, the special category rank list will be released on May 29, followed by the general category rank list on May 30. Both will be published on the notice boards and official websites of the respective colleges.

Applicants will receive updates on counseling schedules and special quota details via SMS and email. Counseling for special category students is set for June 2, while general counseling begins on June 4. Continuous counseling and admissions will commence on June 14, with first-year classes starting on June 30, the Minister added in the official release.
