New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued new guidelines for students appearing in the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in 2026, making 75 per cent attendance in regular school mandatory.
According to an official notification, students must complete two years of study in Classes 9-10 and 11-12, covering all subjects, to be eligible for the respective board examinations. Attendance, monthly tests, and process briefings will form part of the internal assessment.
“Internal assessment is a mandatory and integral part of evaluation under NEP-2020. It is conducted over two years. If a student does not attend school, internal assessment cannot be carried out, and in its absence, the examination result cannot be declared,” the notification said.
For Class 10, students can choose two additional subjects apart from the five compulsory ones, while Class 12 candidates are allowed to opt for one additional subject.
