New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar here on Tuesday against the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam.

The AAP leaders demanded the cancellation of the exam and a Supreme Court monitored probe over the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the test.

The protesters burnt copies of the NEET paper and raised slogans against the Central government.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh lashed out at the Centre and alleged the NEET exam shows its corruption.

"The Ministry of Education and the NTA under it, along with its leaders in BJP-ruled states, have messed up with the future of lakhs of children of the country. Therefore, our demand is that this NEET exam should be cancelled and the exam should be held again," he said.

Singh claimed that the NEET results were to come on June 14, but were released 10 days earlier on June 4.

"So that the media remains busy with the election results and there is no discussion about the BJP's paper leak. There should be an investigation as to why the NEET results were released on June 4 instead of June 14," he said.

The AAP leader exhorted the youth and students of this country to come forward and raise their voice.

"Today we have raised your voice on the road. The Parliament session is going to start from June 24 and the session of the Rajya Sabha will start from June 27. I assure the suffering youth and students of the country that the MPs of the Aam Aadmi Party will raise your voice strongly in the Parliament as well," said Singh.

"All of you raise your voice at your own level. How long will you remain entangled in these fake questions?" he added.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that 24 lakh children of the country have been cheated.

"NEET exam is counted among the prestigious exams of the country. It was never heard before that one can get good marks in the exam by paying money. Although it was definitely heard that you can get a seat or management quota in a private college by paying money, but the incident of getting a good rank in NEET exam by paying money was never heard before in India," he said.

Bharadwaj cited the example of Bihar where some aspirants received the exam's question paper and answers in a 'safe house' near Patna a day before it was conducted on May 5.

"Later, many of them passed the NEET exam. This has been said by the Bihar Police. Around Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh were taken from the students for the NEET question paper," he said.

Bharadwaj demanded that the Centre should not put its responsibility on the Supreme Court.

"Why is the work that the government should be doing repeatedly imposed on the Supreme Court? It is the government's job to investigate. But when the Central government did not do so, the students had to go to the Supreme Court. When the Central government was trying to hide this corruption, the people had to go to the Supreme Court to get justice," said Bharadwaj.

"We demand that the Central government should investigate this. This investigation should be done under the supervision of the Supreme Court so that the whole matter is clear," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court said that even if there was "0.001 per cent negligence" on the part of anyone in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 examination, it should be thoroughly dealt with.

Observing that students have to labour hard while preparing for these examinations, the apex court said the litigation pertaining to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate)-2024 examination ought not be treated as adversarial.

AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai accused the Central government of "whitewashing" the issue.

"The country's Education Minister is not ready to accept this scam. The fight against the scam in NEET exam is not only of the youth, students and their parents of the country, but it is a fight for the future of the country and to save any paper from leaking in future. If the paper is leaked in every exam, what will happen to the employment and future of the youth?" he asked.

The AAP will stage nationwide protests on the issue on Wednesday.
